Design And Construction Of A Touch On/Off Switch
ABSTRACT
A touch switch is a switch that is turned on and off by touching a wire contact, instead of flicking a lever like a regular switch. Touch switches have no mechanical parts to wear out, so they last a lot longer than regular switches. Touch switches can be used in places where regular switches would not last, such as wet or very dusty areas. The device was built around a 555 timer, relay and metal plate. When the plate is touched the 555 timer is triggered and the output on pin 3 goes high turning on the relay for a certain period of time

CHAPTER ONE
1.1 INTRODUCTION
A touch switch is a type of switch that only has to be touched by an object to operate. It is used in many lamps and wall switches that have a metal exterior as well as on public computer terminals. A touchscreen in handset includes an array of touch switches on a display. A touch switch is the simplest kind of tactile sensor.
The Touch ON and OFF Switch Circuit is built around a 555 timer by making use of the default properties of the Pins of the 555 Timer IC. With the help of this circuit, you can turn ON and OFF a device by simply touching the Touch Plates.
If the touch plates are placed at a convenient location, we do not require to move from our place to turn on and off the device.
And the important feature of this circuit is that you will not get any electrical shock which we sometimes get while using the normal switches, even though we are using touch plates.
This device was designed using a 555 Timer IC. The other important components are a relay module and some touch plates.
1.2 OBJECTIVE OF STUDY
The objective of this project is to construct a device which can be used to switch ON and OFF ac appliances using finger touch.
1.2 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT
- This device is very simple to design and very soft to operate compare to other mechanical switch.
- And another important feature of this circuit is that you will not get any electrical shock which we sometimes get while using the normal switches, even though we are using touch plates.
1.3 PROBLEM AND LIMITATION OF THE PROJECT
The major problem of the work is that when the touch plate is exposed to dirt or moisture the system is likely to stop working.
1.4 SCOPE OF THE PROJECT
As the project is based on a Touch to ON and OFF the devices, Touch Plates or Touch Sensors are an important part of this project Basically, a touch switch is the simplest kind of tactile sensor. Described here is a touch switch circuit that operates only when you touch two conductor terminals (say, A and B) simultaneously with your fingertip. This work is built around 555 timer ic as the controller and the touch plate as the touch sensor.
1.5 APPLICATION OF THE PROJECT
- A simple Touch to ON and Touch to OFF Switch Circuit is designed in this project using which, we can turn ON or OFF any device by simply touching the pads.
- By isolating the touch plates from the actual circuit, we can create a nice looking touch controls for our appliances.
- Touch switches are used in many lamps and wall switches that have a metal exterior as well as on public computer terminals. A touchscreen includes an array of touch switches on a display.
The Title Page should be the first section of your project “Design And Construction Of A Touch On/Off Switch”, providing essential details like the project title, your name, your supervisor’s name, the institution, and the submission date. After that, the Abstract offers a brief summary of your project, touching on its purpose, methods, results, and conclusions in 150-300 words. The Acknowledgments section is where you can thank those who supported your research, such as your supervisor, peers, or organizations that provided resources.
Next, the Table of Contents organizes the Design And Construction Of A Touch On/Off Switch by listing its chapters and sections, along with page numbers for easy reference. The List of Figures and List of Tables help guide readers to specific visual elements like graphs, charts, or tables included in the document. There should also be an Abbreviations and Glossary section to explain any specialized terms or acronyms, making the content clearer to readers unfamiliar with the technical language.
The main body of the Design And Construction Of A Touch On/Off Switch should start with the Introduction, which provides background information, outlines the research problem, states your objectives, and gives a brief overview of your research methods. Following that, the Literature Review offers an in-depth look at previous research relevant to your project, identifying gaps your study aims to address. The Methodology section then explains the research design, tools, and data collection methods you used to conduct the project and analyze the data.
In the Results and Discussion section, you present your findings and discuss them in relation to the Design And Construction Of A Touch On/Off Switch research questions or objectives, often using tables or charts to help explain the data. The Conclusion summarizes the key results, discusses their implications, and suggests possible directions for future research. You may also include recommendations based on your findings, offering practical advice for improvements or applications. Finally, the Design And Construction Of A Touch On/Off Switch project should include a References or Bibliography section to list all the sources you cited, as well as Appendices for any additional material. A Statement of Originality is often included to confirm the authenticity of your work
